Late 19th C. ‘Thistle’ glass.

This is an example of a ‘single gather’ construction, the glass being made from one ‘blob’ or ‘gather’ of glass. The bowl has been formed and shaped first then the glass has been drawn to form a slightly waisted stem (created by the action of drawing the glass) and finally the slightly cushioned conical foot has been formed. Of the standard tare glass, manufacturing striations and occasional small air bubbles and inclusions are present with a distinctive ‘Y’ gadget mark.’

Height: 12.4 cm. Bowl diameter: 7.2 cm at rim. Foot diameter: 6 cm
