Edward VIII Commemorative Dump

A typical green glass ‘Dump’ paperweight of ovoid form, hand blown with many trapped air bubbles, manufacturing frit and impurities. It contains a terracotta bust of Edward VIII which has been inscribed on the front ‘PRINCE OF WALES’ and on the reverse ‘Born 1894’. It is likely that the piece was made around 1911 to commemorate his investiture as Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle on 13th July 1911.  In very good condition marred only by minute scratches to the top the body is otherwise free from damage. The base is flattened and carries a rough pontil mark. A similar dump to this one was displayed in the 1999 Paperweight Collectors Circle exhibition held at Christie’s, London.

Height: 3 9/16th inches (9 cm), Diameter 2 ¾ inches (7 cm) at widest point.
