Hand blown blue and white swirl glass vase c1930 produced by the Graystan Glass Company, Battersea, London. The base is freehand acid etched ‘Gray-Stan’ with a distinct polished pontil scar. Height: 81/2 inches (23 cm) Diameter: 5 ½ inches (14 cm) at rim.
A Mrs Graydon-Stannus started the company in 1925 and began serious production in 1926. All pieces were signed: GRAYSTAN on the earlier pieces and later (as this piece) GRAY-STAN. The economic difficulties of the 1930’s hearalded the demise of the company and production ceased in 1936.
