A miniature silver scent bottle with flip-top lid and glass stopper designed to be hung from a chain or chatelaine. It is heavily embossed with ferns and feathers. It carries the hallmarks for Birmingham (Anchor) and date letter 1837 (Gothic O) together with the makers mark ‘CM’ for Charles May plus one other (undetermined – possibly lion) down the side and repeats CM + Lion on the base. The base is also scratch marked with a retailers’ symbol and the figure 196. Height: 1 3/8th inches (3.5 cm) Diameter: 5/8th inches (1.7 cm) at widest point
