19th Century glass ‘dump’ paperweight or doorstop produced circa 1870. The size, weight and obvious decorative nature suggest that this dump was intended as a mantel ornament. Made from green bottle glass with many small bubbles and manufacturing frit, the interior decoration consists of mottled glass drawn from a spiral of red and white strands, rising from the base with occasional blue flecks. Condition is very good having only superficial surface scratches and minor manufacturing ‘dents’. The base has a very rough pontil scar and an arrow shaped chip together with surface wear consistent with its age.
